About this work
A cluster of evergreens stands at the edge of an open field of snow, their dark green shapes softening into mist toward the horizon. The sky is a pale, smoky beige, and the distant trees nearly dissolve into it.
The palette is hushed and narrow, with olive greens, warm greys and creamy whites. Soft, feathered brushwork and a faintly aged, canvas-like surface give it the feel of an old landscape study. It is a still, contemplative winter scene with no figures in it.
In the painting
Pine trees · Snowy clearing · Fog · Winter forest · Overcast sky
