Two red foxes walk single file across an open meadow of snow, small figures in a wide, hushed landscape. Bare birch saplings and dried golden grasses push up through the white in the foreground, while a line of dark pine and birch trees and a partly frozen pond or stream sit further back.

The light is soft and overcast, with no hard shadows and a faint warm glow low on the horizon. Hazy hills fade into the sky, and loose, blended brushwork in the snow gives way to thicker, textured dabs for the grasses, trees and fox fur.
