A man in a dark coat and hat sits in a green sleigh drawn by a brown horse. A small lantern glows orange at the front. The track curves ahead through tall, dark pines whose trunks are streaked with snow, and the forest fades into a cold teal mist.

The lantern and a few warm patches on the snow are the only bright accents in a scene of deep green, black and frosty blue. The brushwork is broad and thick, especially in the snow ruts and bark. The mood is quiet and a little mysterious, like a winter evening journey.
