About this work
A pointed hat with a buckled band hangs from a wall-mounted wooden peg rail, with a dark hooded cloak draped over the next peg and a straw broom leaning against the rack. Dried, curling autumn leaves and thin vine tendrils trail down the left side, while the upper right is left as open wall.
Warm light rakes diagonally across the weathered plaster wall, casting soft, long shadows behind each object. Confident impasto strokes and palette-knife ridges build the wall and cloak, and edges stay soft rather than crisp. Deep umber, aged gold and muted rust give the scene a moody, gallery-still-life warmth.
