About this work
A single open hand rests in the lower centre of the canvas, palm turned up and fingers relaxed. It is lit warmly against a field of near-black, with the faintest blue-green brushwork in the folds of dark fabric at the left.
A ruffle of fine cream lace spills from the cuff. Its looping, vine-like pattern is rendered in tiny, precise strokes. A network of fine cracks across the skin gives the surface the look of an aged panel painting. The mood is quiet, intimate and solemn.
