About this work
Three or four oversized peony or magnolia blossoms in soft ivory tones are scattered asymmetrically across the canvas, joined by thin branching stems and small clusters of leaves. No single bloom is centered, so the arrangement feels dense and decorative rather than staged.
Ink linework is combined with soft, watercolor-like tonal washes in antique cream, charcoal taupe, dusty beige, warm umber and faded sage gray. Fine ink splatters, speckling and small cracks across a matte, worn surface give the piece the patina of an old botanical print, and the light is soft and even.
