About this work
Three heirloom pumpkins, two pale ivory and one burnt orange, with dark curled stems, are grouped just left of center on a weathered wooden table. A dried oak or maple leaf branch drapes diagonally in from the upper right, and loose dried leaves are scattered across the tabletop.
Warm, diffused light picks out the ribs of the pumpkins without harsh shadows, and a slightly hazy glow settles over the softly mottled, plaster-like wall behind. Thick palette-knife strokes build the pumpkin ribbing, in contrast to the looser dry-brush texture and visible canvas grain of the wall.
