About this work
A gentle, rounded ghost stands chest-deep in a dense, edge-to-edge border of autumn blooms: orange poppies, white daisies with gold centers, and orange and rust chrysanthemums. Small orange pumpkins nestle at its base, and deep red oak leaves and dark olive foliage frame the upper corners.
A warm, diffused glow seems to rise from behind and within the figure, catching the folds of its fabric and fading into a hazy background. The ghost is painted rather than drawn, with soft edges and thick, high-relief oil strokes, and chunky palette-knife work in the flowers and pumpkins adds a quiet, nostalgic warmth.
