Two sheet ghosts with simple black oval eyes sit at a small round table at the center of a symmetrical night scene, clinking their wine glasses together. A black cat sits beside the table facing them, carved jack-o'-lanterns glow on mossy mounds to either side, and a woven basket of mushrooms and gourds rests nearby.

Hanging lanterns glow on the tree trunks, and bats fly against a pale full moon above dark foliage scattered with autumn leaves. Warm firelight from the pumpkins and lanterns pools against a cool, deeply shadowed backdrop. The oil painting is built from loose impasto, with thick expressive strokes shaping the ghosts' draped fabric and dabbed strokes for the leaves.
