A great bank of cumulus clouds fills the frame, its crests catching warm light in tones of cream, peach and apricot. Beneath and around it, darker clouds roll in slate and charcoal across a pale blue-grey sky.

The paint is laid on in thick, directional strokes that give the clouds real volume and movement. The contrast between the glowing highlights and the heavy shadows gives the sky a dramatic, unsettled calm.
