About this work
Three bats with spread wings, two in the lower left and a smaller one farther right, drift across a wide gray sky beneath a large crescent moon in the upper right. Generous open space surrounds each element, keeping the composition calm and uncluttered.
Heavy palette-knife impasto builds the swirling gray and charcoal sky with visible ridges and drag marks, and the moon is raised in thick pale paint that catches the light. The bats, by contrast, are flat, smooth matte black shapes, crisp silhouettes set against the tactile ground.
