Heavy strokes of oil paint sweep across the canvas in layered, undulating bands. Deep navy, warm ochre gold and creamy ivory fold over one another, and each ridge catches the light along its edge.

The pale, softly gray ground leaves room around the swirl. The paint is laid on so thickly that the palette-knife marks and the fine weave of the canvas can be seen. The effect is calm but energetic, like water or silk caught mid-movement.
