About this work
A loose row of oversized poppy- and cosmos-like wildflowers in burnt rust, deep burgundy and warm cream rises from the bottom edge like a meadow, thinning toward an open, empty upper background. Dried seed pods and slender bare stems weave between the blooms, and sparse dried grasses at the base hint at a late-autumn field.
There is no horizon: the scene sits on a flat frontal plane, with depth suggested only by overlapping petals and staggered stem heights. Heavy, high-relief palette-knife strokes build each petal in thick ridges of paint, while the canvas weave shows through the muted greige ground under soft, even light.
