About this work
Thick ridges of sage-green plaster curve outward from a vertical seam in the centre. The curves suggest a pressed leaf or a spreading feather. The raised ribs catch the light along their edges, and darker olive and brown tones settle into the grooves between them.
Below a straight dividing line, a band of pale, finely fluted vertical lines in sandy cream gives the green fan a steady, architectural base. The surface is tactile and sculptural. Its colours are muted and earthy, and the mood is quiet.
In the painting
