About this work
A small Santa in a deep red coat walks a snowy lane, pulling a wooden sled loaded with a decorated tree and wrapped gifts. Steep-gabled cottages with lit windows, evergreen garlands and red bows line the road, while a church spire and a glittering town fade into the falling snow.
Thick impasto brushwork and palette-knife snow give the scene a soft, hazy, candlelit glow in cream, amber and dusty evergreen, with a nostalgic, old-world Christmas feeling.
