A handful of skaters in long coats, hats and red scarves glide across a frozen pond, their soft reflections trailing in the ice. Beyond the water a snowy stone village glows with candlelit windows, a gothic church spire rises above the rooftops, and a Christmas tree strung with tiny lights stands beside it.

A hazy golden dusk sky warms the whole scene, while a snow-laden pine, a weathered bench draped in a red tartan blanket and a glowing lantern frame the foreground. Thick, creamy brushwork in the snow and soft, muted tones give the painting a quiet, nostalgic holiday mood.
