A man in a top hat and a woman in a long dark skirt and cape skate arm in arm across a smooth sheet of ice. Their dark clothes stand out against the pale, misty surroundings, and their reflections stretch beneath them in the frozen surface.

Bare oaks dusted with snow frame the scene on either side, and the far shore fades into a creamy, pearl-grey fog. Thick, textured strokes of impasto paint give the ice, the sky and the branches a tactile, weathered feel.
