A lone Santa in a red coat and hat trudges away from us through deep snow, with a rough burlap sack of wrapped presents slung over one shoulder. The red of his coat is the only strong colour in a pale, hazy scene.

The snow, the falling flakes and the blurred trees behind are all painted in broad, flat strokes of cream, grey and soft beige. The result is quiet and spare, with the small figure set against a large, empty winter space.
