A single evergreen rises from the lower middle of the canvas, its boughs made of overlapping dark green and sage leaf-shaped dabs. Strings of tiny gold and pearl beads wind through the branches, and glossy coral, burgundy, gold and cream ornaments hang among them, topped by a faceted gold star.

Behind it, loose rectangles of cream, ochre and faded sage are swiped on with a palette knife. The paint sits in heavy ridges that catch a soft, even light, giving the scene a handmade, nostalgic warmth that feels festive but calm.
