About this work
A winged cherub in the guise of Cupid flies in profile, drawing a bow with an arrow ready to loose. A quiver of arrows is slung at his side, and a loose drape trails from the waist.
The figure is rendered in fine crosshatching and stippling in a single oxblood red ink on aged cream paper, in the manner of an antique engraving. Curly hair, feathered wings and plump limbs are modelled with delicate lines, and generous empty space is left around the figure.
