About this work
An old-world Father Christmas in a soft fur cap and shaggy brown greatcoat gazes into the distance, a snow-dusted fir tree trimmed with red berries and pine cones slung over his shoulder. Behind him a bare birch tree and a misty, snow-covered valley fade into pale winter light.
The canvas has the feel of a classic academic oil painting: soft layered brushwork, thick creamy strokes in the fur and beard, and a muted palette of parchment cream, dusty beige, cocoa brown and frosted evergreen. The mood is quiet, nostalgic and gently festive.
