A relaxed green frog reclines on a fat, coral-pink pool ring, raising an orange cocktail topped with a paper umbrella and a citrus slice. Its amber eyes and smug half-smile give the scene a sense of deadpan holiday leisure.

The water is built from thick, choppy strokes of teal, aqua and cream that catch the light like ripples. Broad palm and banana leaves frame the pool, and warm yellow-green light filters through the trees behind. Heavy impasto brushwork gives the whole picture a tactile, buttery surface.
