About this work
Night settles over a snowy spruce forest while a family gathers around a crackling campfire. A hooded figure kneels to feed a log into the flames, a child in a red jacket and bobble hat sits on a fallen log holding sticks toward the fire, and another figure splits wood on a stump behind. A canvas tent with a snow-covered roof waits at the right.
The fire's orange glow catches the edges of hoods and jackets and flickers across the snow. All around, the forest dissolves into cold blue-grey shadow. The thick, energetic brushwork and strong warm-cool contrast make the scene feel intimate and sheltered.
