Tall pines with snow on their branches stand in the foreground. Behind them a river reflects the orange and pink of a low sun, and a far bank of blue-grey trees fades into the haze. Footprints cross the deep snow in the foreground, and fine flakes are still falling.

The brushwork is soft and loose, and the light is gentle. Pale blues, whites and blush tones make the scene feel calm and still.
