About this work
Layers of heavy paint are dragged and pressed into flat, overlapping slabs, so the surface reads almost like a wall of stone or torn paper. The left side stays calm in creams, putty and warm greys, with ridges of paint catching the light.
On the right, the palette tightens into a dense cluster of burnt orange, slate blue and near-black. Vertical marks there suggest tall forms or reflections without settling into a clear scene. The contrast between the pale field and the dark accent gives the piece its focus.
In the painting
Palette-knife strokes · Layered paint · Burnt orange accents · Slate blue patches · Neutral field
