Layers of purple-grey mountains fade into low cloud above a green and gold valley. A small white cottage with a thin curl of chimney smoke sits on the right, reached by a muddy track that winds in from the foreground.

The grass is painted in thick, buttery strokes of moss green and yellow ochre, while the pale sky is covered in fine cracks, like an old painting. Together these give the scene a calm, lived-in, timeworn feel.
