A plump green frog sits upright on a cluster of lily pads and looks calmly out at the viewer. It wears a dark navy top hat and a gold-rimmed monocle on a thin chain. A coral-pink water lily blooms to the right, and a blurred bud floats in the lower left corner.

The dark pond is painted in deep greens and teals, with reeds and broad leaves behind the frog. Soft ripples and reflections spread across the water. The loose, painterly brushwork gives the comic scene a moody, old-master atmosphere.
