Jagged mountain peaks catch warm light on their upper faces while the slopes below fall into cool blue shade. A small wooden hut with a stone base and a snow-laden roof sits on the left, and clusters of dark green evergreens dot the hillside.

The paint is laid on thickly with a palette knife and loaded brush. Ridges of white and cream impasto form the drifts, and streaks of blue mark the shadows across the snow. Puffy clouds drift in a bright blue sky, giving the scene a crisp, clear winter-day feel.
